Elizabeth Seton Childbearing Center is being forced to close its doors as of September 1, 2003. Due to an astronomical increase in insurance premiums, the birth center cannot afford to operate and will be unable care for its patients. Currently, the staff of the birth center is in negotiations with St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center NY in order to continue to provide care for prenatal clients, with ESCbC midwives attending births at St. Vincent’s Hospital.

This web site was created in an effort to disseminate accurate information regarding the status of the birth center practice and to coordinate the easy transition of patient care from the birth center based practice to a potential hospital based practice or to other providers in NYC.

We are contacting all of our current and former clients, as well as interested community members and out of hospital birth supporters to garner support in helping to take this issue to the public. Please check this web site often for up to date, accurate information.
